Frequently Asked Questions
Every case—and every client—is unique.
The answers below provide general guidance. Your attorney will give you advice tailored to the specific facts of your claim.
Getting Started
Q 1. I’ve been hurt—how soon should I call TPMB?
A. Immediately. Critical evidence (911 recordings, surveillance footage, vehicle “black-box” data, witness statements, etc.) can disappear within days or even hours. Our in-house investigators move fast to secure and preserve everything we need to build your case.
Case Value & Timing
Q 2. How much is my case worth?
There is no one-size-fits-all number. Value depends on:
- Liability facts (how and why the injury happened)
- Injury severity and long-term medical outlook
- Economic losses (medical bills, lost wages, future care)
- Life impact (pain, disability, loss of normal life, emotional distress)
We gather medical records, consult expert witnesses, and document every loss before placing a dollar figure on your claim. Rushing this step can cost you money; we will meet with you once the evidence is complete to discuss a realistic valuation.
Q 3. How long will my case take?
It varies. A settlement can occur:
- Pre-suit—before a lawsuit is even filed.
- During litigation—after key evidence has been exchanged.
- At the courthouse steps—sometimes in the middle of trial.
Building maximum leverage means assembling your case “brick by brick.” From filing to trial date, Illinois courts typically run 12–24 months. We will advise you on every offer and let you decide whether to settle or proceed to trial.
Costs & Fees
Q 4. Do I have to pay anything upfront?
No. We work on a contingency-fee basis—we only get paid if we win. TPMB also advances all case expenses (filing fees, medical records, expert witnesses, etc.). Those costs are reimbursed from the settlement or verdict, never from your pocket.
Your Role After an Injury
Q 5. What should I do right now?
- Get medical care and follow all treatment plans.
- Photograph injuries, vehicles, and accident scenes when safe.
- Use the enclosed notebook to log pain levels, appointments, and expenses.
- Forward any new documents to our office promptly.
Q 6. Should I talk to the insurance company?
No—call us first. Adjusters are trained to limit payouts. Let us handle all communications to protect your claim.
Q 7. Can I post about my accident on social media?
Please don’t. Even casual posts can be taken out of context and used against you. When in doubt, ask your attorney before sharing anything.
Q 8. What if I’m still getting medical treatment?
That is normal. We usually wait until your condition stabilizes (or your doctors outline future needs) before entering settlement talks—this ensures we capture all of your damages.
Court & Communication
Q 9. Will I have to go to court?
Maybe, but not necessarily. Many cases resolve through negotiation or mediation. If trial becomes the best path, we will prepare you thoroughly and stand beside you every step of the way. We also handle court hearings that are continued or rescheduled, keeping you informed and prepared. Negotiation conferences – such as mediations – usually require your presence, and we will guide you through each step.
Q 10. How often will I hear from my attorney?
You will receive updates at every key milestone, and you may contact us any time. Together, we’ll set a communication plan—phone, email, or text—that fits your preference.
Q 11. I do not live near one of the TPMB offices. How does that affect my claim or cases?
We bring our extensive resources to you. Your location is never a barrier to working with our team. No matter where you are, you can be confident that you’ll be in capable, caring hands throughout your case.
Potential Compensation
Q 12. What damages can I recover?
Depending on your case, you may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical bills (past & future)
- Lost wages and diminished earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of normal life / disability
- Emotional distress
- Disfigurement
- Out-of-pocket expenses (transportation, home modifications, etc.)
We will identify every category that applies and fight for the full amount you deserve.
